Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre offers everything from family fun in the well-equipped indoor pools, to indoor sports courts for those who enjoy a bit of competition, to a multi-purpose gym and fitness centre which caters to individuals of all fitness levels and interests.
Pioneer is also home to The Southern Centre which uses innovative lighting and sound technology so participants can explore and create at the touch of a switch.

Pools
Our indoor pools and facilities operate year-round and include:
- Lane pool - Five-lane 25-metre pool (1m to 1.5m deep)
- Teach pool - Four-lane 16-metre pool
- Leisure pool - 22 by 22-metre pool (0 to 1.5m deep).
- Lazy river
- Water fountains, basketball hoop, balls, pool rings and splash bucket.
- Waves in leisure pool - operates Monday to Friday from 4.30pm and weekends and public holidays from 11.30am.
- Spa pool - Ages 3+. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver within the spa. Max ratio 1 adult with 2 children.
- Sauna and steam room - Ages 16+

Learn to swim
Swimsmart learn to swim lessons teaches children and adults essential water safety skills and confidence in the water.
Lessons for children are taught during the school terms, with the option to also enrol in the school holiday programme.
Adult lessons are free for Pool and Gym & Pool members.

Indoor stadium
The indoor stadium is 2150 square meters and features:
- wooden sprung floor
- 6 volleyball courts
- 3 basketball / netball courts
- 12 badminton courts
Pioneer stadium is also home to Tumbletimes and Pre-School Gymnastics.

The Southern Centre: multi-sensory experience
The Southern Centre is a multi-sensory environment for people of all ages and abilities which helps reduce stress levels and develop social skills.
It is a unique facility with the ability to cater to the needs of the individual, empowering you to choose your own environment, make changes and control your leisure time.
The Southern Centre is for everyone, however, individuals who would most benefit are adults and children who have learning differences, cerebral palsy, autism, multiple disabilities, anxiety or stress-related problems.

Keep our pools safe
We want everyone to be able to enjoy the pools and have a safe and enjoyable experience.
It’s important that caregivers take extra care when accompanying a child to the pool.

Supervision of children in the pool
- Children under five years old must be within arm’s reach and under constant supervision by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or older in the pool at all times, who is wearing an orange wristband.
- Children between the ages of five and seven (inclusive) must be wearing a purple wristband and actively supervised by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or older, who is to be within the pool area at all times and able to provide immediate assistance.
- Children aged 8 to 11 years (inclusive) must have a responsible caregiver 16 years or older on site unless they are in a supervised programme, such as swimming lessons. If they are swimming before or after their programme, their caregiver must be onsite.
